History of the Pakistan Super League
The advent of the Pakistan Super League can be traced back to the year 2015 when the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) announced that they would be launching a new domestic cricket tournament. This tournament would feature six teams from all over the country and would be held in February and March. The tournament was supposed to be the equivalent of the IPL, the highly popular Indian domestic tournament. Later on, in 2017, the PCB announced that the tournament would be rescheduled to be held in February, where it would be hosted in UAE, due to security concerns in Pakistan. After the rescheduling of the tournament, the PCB found a new title sponsor in the form of the Haier Group, which replaced the Qatar Foundation. In June of the same year, the PCB revealed that the tournament would now be called the Pakistan Super League (PSL).
Format of the Pakistan Super League
Like most domestic cricket tournaments, the PSL is a Twenty20 tournament, wherein the teams will play each other in the league format. The teams will be divided into two groups; the Group Stage and the Elimination Stage. In the Group Stage, each team will play against the others in a round-robin format. At the end of this stage, the top two teams from each group will move on to the Elimination Stage. The Elimination Stage will begin with the semifinals, followed by the finals.
